Social evils have been prevalent in the society since the advent of humanity and will continue to be so due to mere negligence of people. The ones in power try to impose their will on the weaker section of the society in an attempt to exploit them. Some of the social evils prevalent in the society are child labour, poverty, illiteracy, low status of women, child marriage, dowry system, superstition, religious conflicts, alcoholism. People quote religious books and slogans to impose their will on illiterate people who out of their sense of devotion believe them but don't know the scientific reason behind the fact. Illiteracy being one of the primary reason and social evils has caused a havoc in our society and stops the development and we'll bring of a society which provides a platform for equal opportunities for everybody. Many social evils like sati and child marriage have been almost eradicated from the society. Status of women has been improving over the last two decades. Increasing Literacy rate and awareness in the society is helping not only the females but the males to stand up for them. For example, UN started a global women's right movement called 'HE FOR SHE' with the motto that not only will the men not harrass the women but will not remain silent upon seeing someone exploit it. Now 18 years after the advent of the 21st century we see women participating and leading in different fields of work. They don't need assistance but are treated equally in most parts of the world. Corruption is another social evil rooted deep in our society. Wikipedia defines it as a form of unethical conduct by a person entrusted with a position of authority. But why is it so common? Why doesn't anybody stand against it. For the record, we've become so used to minor corruption that we've accepted it as a part of our life. Since nobody raises voice against it, so is the future generation learning from this. But corruption can be fought. It's good that people are taking initiative to fight corruption but everyone needs support after a period of time. Children must be taught to question a policy or a process and protest upon not recieving a proper answer to their query. They must be taught the importance of rules and regulations and the need to follow them not out of fear but respect and a sense of duty. They must be taught not to fear upon asking for their rights but at the same time not being negligent towards their duties.
Like wise many social evils can be countered if we all stand against them. We've come so far in the fight. Let's continue it and truth shall triumph.
